
Azza Fahmy and Julien Macdonald: A creative intercultural partnership
Azza Fahmy, the Egyptian artist and jewellery designer. has begun a collaborative partnership with the international British fashion designer, Julien Macdonald.
Inspired by Julien’s 2007 Autumn/Winter collection the exclusive capsule jewellery collection, Fahmy launched ‘Azza Fahmy Jewellery for Julien Macdonald’, in the Spring 2007, making its debut as part of his London Fashion Week show in February.
Azza Fahmy created a capsule collection of 12 items for retail from the show collection and also presented her own Azza Fahmy Jewellery Signature collection during her visit to London in 2007.
Fahmy has earned fame for her innovative and contemporary jewellery designs and intricate craftsmanship. Julien Macdonald work reflects a sensitive understanding of feminine form. The result is an outstanding wenty piece collection in gold and silver and a combination of gold on silver, with a mix of semi-precious stones consisting of earrings, bracelets, rings and pendants.
Fahmy said, “We are delighted to collaborate with Julien Macdonald, who shares a mutual passion for producing inspirational and elegant feminine styles. We have worked closely to create a capsule of eye-catching pieces, based on selected pieces from our collection.”
Julien added: “Azza Fahmy’s individual style, intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail together with her use of precious and semi-precious stones caught my imagination and we have worked together to design fantastic large scale pieces that work in harmony with the themes of my collection.”
Fahmy studied jewellery design and manufacturing in London and currently runs her studio and business from Cairo, where most of her craftspeople are based.
